Esports Integrity Coalition and ICSS EUROPE join forces to combat betting fraud in esports
Media ReleasesThe eSports Integrity Coalition (ESIC) and International Centre for Sport Security Europe (ICSS EUROPE) have signed a new agreement to collaborate on a range of projects and initiatives to help enhance the integrity of the esports industry.
With the esports industry projected to pass the US$1 billion dollar mark for global revenues in 2017 and continuing to experience significant investment and rapid growth worldwide – including within international betting markets – ESIC and the ICSS EUROPE will work together across several areas to encourage good governance, integrity and transparency in esports, as well addressing and preventing the manipulation of competitions and results.
In particular, the ICSS EUROPE will provide expert advice and support to ESIC on its global anti-corruption campaign, which includes the implementation of a 12-month action plan that will see the ICSS EUROPE provide a variety of services to:
- Enhance education around anti-corruption for players, competitors, game developers and tournament organisers
- Support the development of awareness initiatives to promote integrity across the industry
- Provide investigative support on match-fixing investigations including liaising with betting analysts, conducting interviews, carrying out necessary research and obtaining statements
- Work with ESIC on the development of a ‘fit and proper persons’ criteria
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Ian Smith, Integrity Commissioner for the esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC), said:

We share the same vision – for sport played to win and free of manipulation and corruption – and it has, consequently, been an easy and obvious decision to work together.
